Meteor Crater trip

Thursday, June 30th we drove to near Winslow, AZ to see Meteor Crater. Grandpa said it would take two hours but it only took one and half hours.

First we watched a movie to learn about how the crater was formed. It happened more than 50,000 years ago and traveled at 26,000 miles per hour. How do they know that?

This guy talked about the land that the meteor crater was found on and answered questions.

This meteorite was found about 2 miles from the crater.

It was very windy. We had to take off our hats. The hole is 700 feet deep and 4000 feet across.

The only shaded area we could find.

At one time the astronauts trained in the center of the crater because it was like the moon surface.

In the museum there was a world map that showed all of the major meteor craters. This one is not the largest but it's the first proven and the best preserved impact site on earth.

We got to shop in the gift shop before we left to go to McDonald's to eat lunch. We were really hungry.

In Holbrook we drove by the Wigwam Motel. It's in Grandpa's Weird Arizona book. It's been there since 1950. Grammy said that Oprah stayed in one of these when she was on one of her road trips.

It would be weird to sleep in a teepee.

This is the back of Dillan's shirt. We didn't know what "Coprolite" meant so we googled it and found out it meant "fossilized dinosaur poop".

This is Dillan and me wearing our new shirts. Devan wouldn't cooperate and put his shirt on. Grammy says this is another "Brent moment".

I bought this alien spy with money from my great gram. It is a motion detector that I can record my own message. We have had it sitting by the cookies saying "Don't touch that cookie". I think it will help keep intruders out of my room.

Dillan got a lizard egg to hatch in water but we didn't get a picture of that.

I thought Meteor Crater was really cool.

Love, Logan
