Iowa family activities- part 2

More family Iowa family activities coming up but first look at these guys.

They went camping Labor Day weekend up by our house. Riding their quads was rather dusty!

Another family get together but poor Ava isn't able to snap her blue jeans!

I started a tradition many years ago to paint all the grandchildren and great grandchildren names on ties for dad. I added baby Ava this year but retarded me...I spelled "Eva" instead of "Ava" and didn't discover it until a week after I painted the ties. Some were done with acrylic paint and some were done with oil. What a frickin' mess. I pretty much salvaged two of them without any major mess but the second one from the left is a new tie...with room for a few more names!

JB played handyman for the last 2 weeks. Here he is getting ready to seal the roof above the laundry room! Work! Work! Work! He did take off a few days when it was raining so it wasn't "Never get a day off" situation!

One day we drove to JB's hometown, which is about an hour away.

His alma mater!

Hard to see but there's a big iron peacock in this pic!

Mom and dad Bitterman.

Grandpa and Granny Bitterman.

Grandpa and Grandma Knos (JB's mothers parents)

Saturday, Sept 10th Iowa played Iowa State. We had a tailgate party in the driveway. Some of the fans were quite boisterous and rowdy! The game ended after three overtimes..Iowa State winning 44-41. "It was a really good game"!

JB rigging up a sun shade for the TV.

Another partial family gathering for a pizza party!

Dad all doo-ded up for his annual fireman picture. He's the oldest one of the Waukon volunteer firemen crew.

On Tuesday, Sept 13th we moved down the road to Guttenberg, IA on the Mississippi to where JB's sister and husband live.

As we sat in a restaurant with a view of the river, I chose "Froglegs" for my entree of choice! They were yummy. I wonder if they were caught locally!

We'll spend a few days here and then we'll see what happens next!

Iowa family activities- part 1

We landed in Waukon on August 24th, after leaving home on the 9th.

This is our niece Kelly with her two kidlets, Reid and Ava (she was born in Nov so hadn't met her before).

What a cutie!

First family get-together. Mom and Miss Hailey, another grand niece.

Mom, dad and JB. This picnic table has been around forever and must have 100 coats of paint.

Sherry, my brother Glen and brother-in-law Jim.

This quilt was completed by my sister, Jane but I did the three panels of embroidery. And now it's mine!

Another family gathering- niece Karli, baby Ava and my sister Marilyn.

Brother Glen, Hailey and Reid.

We attended two of Karli's volleyball games. She's second from the left. She's a point getter!

One day was spent fishing on the mighty Mississippi. Sister, Jane with the first catch- a nice bass.

My only catch- the anchor rope!

A barge- I forgot the name.

A little baby that had to get thrown back to grow up.

The Lansing bridge crossing from Iowa to Wisconsin. That thingy in the middle is to keep the barges from hitting the bridge as they make the bend in the channel.

Our boat captain Jim.

Look at this whopper!

We saw lots of turtles sunning themselves!

Glad it wasn't me who got their fishing line wrapped around the propeller!

Sister Marilyn caught this catfish in his whisker! How unlucky was he?

Nice cat!

Jim did not catch this fish! He's just pretending he did!

Cooler full of the Mississippi's finest!

Cleaning time!

Thanks for the great day at the river. We got to eat these guys a few days later.

Next up- part 2.
